I: The Beginnings
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I1) New Bark Town and choosing a starter
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Items : Potion x 2
Pokemon : Cyndaquil, Chikorita and Totodile
Before you start the game, you will be given a commentary on controls, then
professor oak comes in and starts teaching you about pokemon. You can choose
your name, then your rival's name. After you choose the names, your journey
automatically begins. Unlike the original, you do not need to set the time.
You start in your room, the only room in the second floor (Where does your
mom sleep? =o)
You can boot up the PC and get a free potion. I recommend you do so. Aside
from the PC, there is nothing else of interest (your room has two TVs
broadcasting the same program). The town map does not work in towns.
Once you go down, your mom will hand you your Pokebeeper and Phone Card (The
alternative to the phone in Pokegear in SG B5). She will not ask you to set
the day of the week or DST. She also mentions Professor Elm is looking for
you (Why didnt they give him a nice name like driftwood?).
You can go sightseeing in New Bark Town, but there is not much useful to hear. When you are ready, proceed to the lab. Talk to the red-haired kid by the lab. G/S players should know who he is.
When you enter the lab, you are forced to run an errand for Professor Elm
(lazy mudkip). He gives you 3 of his rarest pokemon (Why would he do that?
Video game logic!) to help you run your errand. Here are the three starters:
Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile
Grass Fire Water
Final Evolved Forms:
Meganium
Grass
Base Stats:
HP: 80
Attack: 82
Def: 100
SpA: 83
SpD: 100
Speed: 80
Typhlosion
Fire
Base Stats:
HP: 78
Attack: 84
Def: 78
SpA: 109
SpD: 85
Speed: 100
Feraligatr
Water
Base Stats:
HP: 85
Attack: 105
Def: 100
SpA: 79
SpD: 83
Speed: 78
What Starter should you choose?
In my opinion, Cyndaquil is the best starter. It pwns the earlygame, due to
fast evo and type advantage (over Bugsy, IMO one of the hardest leaders)
Most trainers other than Hikers do not carry pokemon resistant to fire, so
it can make use of its nice SpA stat and STAB to tear through them. It makes
the best use of STAB with 109 SpA and 100 Speed, and it can learn two of the
elemental punches (Fire & Thunder punch) in its final form.
Totodile is the second best starter. Its earlygame is quite hard, as the
rival fight is harder and it has a late evo. It can't make use of STAB as
effectively as Typhlosion as its SpA stat is only 83, meaning it can't surf
and use ice punch effectively. With the addition of buyable Earthquake and
easily obtainable Return, it can make use of its Attack Stat and carry
Surf/Ice Punch too.
Chikorita is, in my opinion, the worst starter. Its earlygame is very hard,
as Falkner and Bugsy will tear through it with STAB SE attacks (Aerial Ace,
Fury Cutter). It doesn't help that grass is resisted by a lot of types,
leaving it to use its normal move, Tackle. It also has a limited movepool.
The reason that I emphasise earlygame so much is that around Goldenrod, your
Pokemon choices start getting better(Heracross, Eevee, Dratini to name a few). I tend to ditch my starter once i find a better pokemon. Keeping your starters is fine, though.
The machine on the top left side of the lab can heal pokemon.
Once you pick a pokemon, you should go down (cause, like, thats the only way
to get out?). One of Professor Elm's aides will give you a Potion to start
with. Now you should have two potions. Go out of the lab, then
SAVE!
because the HARDEST battle in Shiny Gold X is about to begin.
Once you go out, you get ambushed by some random trainer named Carlos who
looks like Noland (Battle Factory) wearing a trenchcoat. Which brings me to
my next point - The origin of Carlos.
My theory:
Factory Head Noland was enjoying a fine day experiencing his 128492342th loss
against the player,.
Player: You just got pwnt.
Noland: Its not FAIR! Ur pkmn r BROKEN!1!@!2 U HACKER !!1!@
After the battle:
Noland: Nxt time, gv that dude lv 1 pkmn, k?
Aide: But thats against the game rules!
Noland: STFU nub I make the rules GTFO lolz
Aide: Can you not talk in l33tsp34k?
Noland: I SAID STFU!!1!!@!1!!11!
*Bludgeons aide with spanner*
Noland: (lapses into normalspeak after the shock) What have I done? I'm a murderer!! I
better change my identity and start over as a trainer!
*runs from factory, COMPLETELY forgetting the lv 100 pokemon in the factory*
(Reaches Lavaridge Town)
Old Woman: I got this egg from the..
Noland: Cut the crap and gimme the egg!
[NOLAND obtained EGG!]
*Buys trenchcoat and changes name*
*Finds his way to Johto somehow*
*sees trainer*
Noland (now CARLOS): Easy money!
/end theory
This is the single hardest battle in B5.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
CARLOS's Pokemon
Slowpoke lv 5
Curse
Yawn
Growl
Tackle
You cannot train your starter, you have to battle him using your level 5
pokemon.
Chikorita Cyndaquil Totodile
Tackle Tackle Scratch
Growl Leer Growl
Slowpoke will spam curse and raise its def and attack, powering up headbutt.
It will also try to yawn, putting your pokemon to sleep while it Curses up.
After a lot of Curses, headbutt will do serious damage to your pokemon.
You only have 1 oran berry and 2 potions for recovery. This battle depends on
your luck. Just keep attacking, and don't use any of the non-damaging moves
because Slowpoke can just curse away the stat reductions. It took me 5 tries
to do this without any potions/berries.
If you're lucky, it'll spam yawn while you're sleeping and forget to use tackle. If you're unlucky it'll curse up while you're sleeping and when you awake your attacks will do piddly damage on it.
Prize: 500G
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After that hellish battle, rejoice, as you have just completed the hardest
battle in Shiny Gold X! And a psychotic murderer is after you! REJOICE =D!!
I2) Route 29 to Cherrygrove
Note: All Hoenn pokemon are rare
Pokemon that can be found | Rating (usefulness in-game at this point)

Hoothoot | ** Crappy
Pidgey | *** Limited movepool

Spearow (Headbutt) | You can't get it at this point
You don't have pokeballs, so you can't catch anything.
Move down, go up the slope, and go up and right to get a Potion in the upper
right corner. Go back down and you should see a tollbooth ahead. Go through
it.

The only pokemon of note here is Geodude. Once it learns Rock Throw, it can
handle the first two gwms without much trouble. It isn't good endgame though
due to its plethora of weaknesses.
Go back to Route 29.
Route 29
Go right and get the ORAN BERRY from the tree. These events are time-based,
and happen only after a few minutes, for example the tbe berry will regrow
after some time.
Go right into Cherrygrove Town
------------------------
Cherrygrove
------------------------
Items: TOWN MAP, Mystic Water
Talk to the old man at the entrance of the town. After giving you a tour, he
gives you the TOWN MAP. You can talk to him for some useless advice. There is
a phone booth here. You can call MOM and ELM, and trainers who you've
recorded on your phone card. They might challenge you to a rematch.
Go into the pokemon center to heal your pokemon.

You still can't catch anything.
Go up and you will see a house with a berry tree beside it. Enter the house
and the man inside will give you an ORAN BERRY. The tree beside it has the
same berry.
Go up, and you'll find that the way to Route 31 is blocked. Continue on the
other way, and you'll reach Mr. Pokemon's house. There is a tree near it
that has a CHERI BERRY.
Once you enter the house, Mr. Pokemon gives you the MYSTERY EGG, and
introduces you to Professor Oak. He gives you a Pokedex, and runs off. Mr.
Pokemon will heal your Pokemon for you.
When you come out, you will recieve a call about a theft in the lab from ELM.
(We don't know someone by the name of ELM, we only know PROFESSOR ELM, so
we'll ignore it =x)
ELM, if you didn't know is the short form of PROFESSOR ELM. I have achieved
this result after years of complex analysis of the script.
Anyways, head back to Cherrygrove.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cherrygrove Town
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Buy some Potions from the store, and train your pokemon up. You should train
them to about level 10 if you have Cyndaquil or Chikorita, and you should
train Totodile to about lvl 13. An important battle is coming up soon.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I4) Your first Rival Battle
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Go to the right exit of the town, and there's that red-haired kid we saw
just now, with a stolen pokemon! He battles you immediately.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rival Battle #1
From now on, i will be referring to your rival as 'Rival'.
Pokemon:
If you chose Cyndaquil:
Totodile lv 8
Scratch
Leer
Rage
----
If you chose Chikorita
Cyndaquil lv 8
Tackle
Leer
Smokescreen
----
If you chose Totodile
Chikorita lv 8
Tackle
Growl
Razor Leaf
----
Not much strategy needed, just attack. Use healing items if needed, and if
your levels are high enough, you win.
The reason Totodile needs to be so overleveled is that Rival's pokemon packs
a super-effective move (Razor Leaf). If its not at lv 13 or more, don't
expect it to survive more than 2 razor leafs.
Prize: 800G
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you beat him, you get some of his money and a lot of exp. He will say that he is going to be the best pokemon trainer in the world. Fat hope =P.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I5) Mystery Egg Delivery
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Route 29
Go exactly the same way, except you can jump down ledges now.
New Bark Town
Items: AMULET COIN, Pokeball x 5
Go straight to Professor Elm's lab. Enter, and talk to him. He will jump backwards when you talk to him. He will ramble about a lot of stuff, the superiority of Professor Oak, etc. When he's done, you will go on your quest. Exit the lab, and an Aide will pass you 5 pokeballs.
Exit Elm's lab, and go to your house and speak to your mom. Instead of offering to save money for you, she will give you the Running Shoes and the AMULET COIN. (Why did Zel take the saving feature out? =( We could exploit it in the Elite 4!)
Now, you have the ability to catch pokemon. If you're one of those who care about the Pokedex, and complete it as you go, you're gonna have a REALLY hard time catching the elusive Hoenn pokemon and Raikou and Entei (Both have Roar XD).
When you go out, an old man will show you how to catch pokemon. (Same tutorial as FR)
I'm going to repost the pokemon lists here, basically you go to Cherrygrove and go up to where the two trainers were battling and continue from there.

There's quite a lot of things in Violet City. The gym, Sprout Tower, and the PokemonSchool.
Firstly, there's a boy in the bottom left house who wants a Bellsprout for an Onix. This may seem good, as Onix can take on Falkner with its high def and STAB Rock Throw, but it will not listen to you after level 10. =(
Secondly, there's the Pokemon School. The teacher's not in, so all you can do is look at notes. There are 2 students playing gameboys at the back of the class. Wish i could do that too =(. You can look at the notes, but there's nothing interesting or new.
The gym is to the left of the School. Beside the gym is a fat guy. He will spin around and talk to you in mixed up English (kinda like Yoda =x). Say no to his question and he reveals himself to be the teacher of the school. His name is Earl, and he'll talk about useless stuff like EXP. They should get someone to teach about IVs and EVs and whether a Smeargle STAB Tackle will be able to OHKO bold, 252 hp/def Shuckle or something =p
Our next destination is the tower up ahead, called Sprout Tower.

I9) Violet Gym
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------
Preparation
--------------------
The Violet Gym is home to many Flying types. The normal trainers do not pose much threat, its Falkner, the gym leader, that you should be worried about. All his pokemon (2 of them) have flying attacks - Aerial Ace on Hoothoot, and Fly on Pidgeotto.
You can't get electric or ice pokemon and moves, so your best bet is to train a Geodude to at least level 11 so that it learns Rock Throw. Or you could just take the gym on with the evolved starter (Quilava or Croconaw). Bayleef doesn't stand a chance =(.
---------------------
The Actual Gym
---------------------
Trainers: Bird Keeper Abe, Bird Keeper Rod, Falkner (Gym Leader)
When you enter the Gym, the first thing you notice should be Carlos, the psycho whom you battled last time in New Bark Town (He certainly acts like one later in the game...).
When you take a step forward, he challenges you.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carlos Battle II (Violet Gym)
Carlos' Pokemon
Eevee lv 13
Headbutt
Tail Whip
Double Team
?
Slowpoke lv 13
Growl
Headbutt
Curse
Yawn
This battle should be easier than the previous one, as you've come prepared. I'm not sure what Eevee's last move is, i think it is a non-normal attack.
Eevee has a 70 power STAB move, which works out to be 105 power factoring in STAB. It is going to hit very hard. You should employ a fast, powerful pokemon to take it down.
Slowpoke can be owned by Gastly if you caught 1 in Sprout Tower. If you don't have one, use a special attacker, Bellsprout is probably the best to combat it. You shouldn't have a hard time with slowpoke, just switch out when it yawns to prevent sleep.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Look at the two statues near the entrance. They say that Carlos beat the gym. He has the advantage of better movesets. Your name is going to be on that Plaque. There is a man standing near the statues. He will dispense advice about type alignments, but you probably don't need his advice.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once you've disposed of the trainers, you're ready to face Falkner. I recommend you heal, as Carlos probably drained your pokemon. When you're ready, talk to Falkner (which has the same sprite as Koga =X).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gym Battle 1
Falkner - Flying Gym Leader
Hoothoot lv 16
Hypnosis
Double Team
Aerial Ace
Mud-Slap
Pidgeotto lv 18
Quick Attack
Fly
Double Team
Mud-Slap
He begins with a speech on how you can clip bird pokemon's wings with a jolt of
electricity, and he says its an insult to bird pokemon. You can, as the only burd pokemon
who don't have a weakness to electricity are Zapdos and Altaria =.=.
Anyway, you probably don't have electricity unless you got an Unown with HP Electric or
something. Geodude pwns here, as it resists all their attacks (BTW, Mud-Slap is Ground
with 20 power. With a chance of lowering acc =(. )
Hoothoot will start with Hypnosis and will probably start Double Teaming. Gym battles like
these is only dependent on luck, as all your moves can miss due to Double Team (cheap crap)
. Hypnosis's accuracy is only 55, so you could hax a miss or something.
Pidgeotto is the real deal. Putting Fly on Pidgeotto is kinda stupid, IMO. Aerial Ace is
stronger, and you essentially get a free turn. But hey, i'm not complaining.
When you win, he'll reveal that you just pwned his dad's cherished bird pokemon. His dad
must be pretty crappy then =X.
YOU GOT THE ZEPHYRBADGE!!
Good work, only 15 more badges -_-. And BTW, Mud-Slap is crappy. You can buy Earthquake from the game corner in Goldenrod. Falkner says its "both offensive and defensive". It kinda lacks in the offensive part (20 pwr wut?)
Prize: 1800G, TM31 (Mud-Slap)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sidequests that can be done with Zephyrbadge: Sidequests - Part I to X
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I11) Mystery Egg
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once you go out, you will recieve a PokeBeeper message from Prof. Elm, telling that his aide is in town, and you should speak to him.
The aide will give you the egg and scoot. So now you have to make an important decision, how would you like your egg? Fried, Scrambled, Poached or Steamed? Or you could just eat it raw with the developing embryo!
The egg contains Togepi, and is the source of many glitches in Shiny Gold. When you enter a double battle with only one pokemon and/without an egg, the game will glitch up. So you could just deposit the egg in the box and leave it to collect dust, since Togetic is not a good pokemon.
Rather long, eh?
