1--- HELP!!!! on Wed Jul 14, 2010 9:44 pm

Adoptable Mod
i've just recently purchased a new printer, and i quickly want to install it onto my computer. i put in the CD, followed the instructions. When the screen prompted to connect the printer device to the computer, a new window pops up and askes to install the device (which was recommended) to the computer by looking for a installation software by inserting the CD that came with the product, and so it searched for a software but nothing was found. I tried to look for it through other files but nothing came up. Therefore, the printer could not be installed and the installation was not fully completed. This happened every time when i tried to install it. So we returned it and bought a new printer by the same brand, took it home, installed it and the exact same thing happened.
i don't know if it's the printer, or the computer but i really don't want to think that i've wasted my money on a crappy printer.
if anybody could help, that would be a big appreciation. i will also throw in a big prize if your solution works :3 (lol, all of my points?)

ps. i use Windows Vista, just in case you need to know.

You could try uninstalling everything and starting over completely with the suggestions above.

For instance, my scanner/printer actually connects with my computers built in software for scanning. I thought I was going to have to find the software online because I can't find the CD, but it worked anyway.

If you have a default 'photo suite' or something pre-installed on your comp you could see if just plugging in your printer and using that program works.

Good luck Sharlott Very Happy

When in doubt, you could call the company. Hopefully they have a tech support number so you can explain your situation. I bet they get this a lot.

thanks for the help, i'll try your suggestions soon, but i'm just saying: the printer was on, i inserted the CD first and when i connected the printer, that's when the new window popped up. The device WAS detected...
@ clover: so you mean you don't need to find the software? You mean it worked by itself alone?

here is a simple image of what happened...
i install the CD, and then it asks me to connect the device then this comes up,

see the new window? saying to locate and install the software (which was recommended) and i clicked on the recommended choice then this comes up after 7 seconds or so..
and so, i clicked next for it to find the software, but then this popped up,

any bit of help with be appreciated

What I mean was, my new computer came with a sort of...printer/fax/scanner program already installed. It's just called "windows fax and scan"

I just plugged in my scanner/printer, and it connected to it.

What happens if you just try to print out a test page, like with text on it? Do you get an error message?

Also, have you tried plugging the USB cable into any other ports on your computer? Or just the same one each time. Sometimes that matters...

Otherwise, instead of messing with the CD you could just find the correct software online. Usually HP/Windows stuff you can download for free. You could check here:

I know it's obvious, but is your printer on? Like are the lights flashing and so forth after you connect it to the comp with the USB cable?
